Hi altruists,

Hope all of you are doing well. I am looking for literature on the NorSand model, which considers the drained cyclic triaxial testing behavior. I have found a paper by Michael Jefferies, “Principal stress rotation as cause of cyclic mobility.” However, this article considered strain-controlled cyclic simple shear tests (with a constant volume approach). As you know, during cyclic triaxial testing, the effect of principal stress rotation is negligible (especially during drained tests). Moreover, I would like to model a set of stress-controlled drained cyclic triaxial tests. Could you kindly help me with this?

Thanks a lot in advance for your kind help.

Best regards
Riyad

    Hi Riyad

I suspect that clever combination of the VBA code in the spreadsheets from Shuttle and Jefferies for both the monotonic triaxial compression test calibration and the CDSS calibration could get you where you need to be.

However, the VBA code for the simulation of NorSand is a bit cryptic (to me at least) and a bit simplified.

I’m currently trying to implement a similar problem in FLAC 8.1, albeit only simulation of stress-controlled monotonic triaxial compression and then cyclic loading is DSS to calibrate and compare NorSand and PM4Sand/Silt.

Did you end up managing to progress on this problem?

    Paul
